Gita is a co-founder and director of Stargate Capital where she created Trapezia, Europe’s first venture capital fund to invest in women focused businesses. After graduating from the London school of Economics and qualifying as a chartered accountant, she went on to join the senior management team at the NatWest Banking Group. In 2005 was listed in the Asian Power 100 List, identifying her amongst some of the most influential Asians in Britain.
More recently Gita has employed her City background to help create a business environment in which entrepreneurship can flourish; her selection as a finalist for the 2007 Credit Suisse Award for the Outstanding Woman in Business (National Business Awards) further underscored her contribution.
Gita was born in Kenya and takes a keen interest in the business development of women from the African Continent. She has vast experience in advising and championing initiatives for the economic empowerment of women in business internationally.
Gita serves on various boards including Oxfam GB, the London Chamber of Commerce ABA (Asian Business Association), the Institute of Chartered Accountants’ “Narrowing the Gap” Steering Committee, the British Association of Women Entrepreneurs, and the Finance Committee of the London School of Economics where she is also a Governor.
She is seen as an expert in leading change in the women’s market, and is often asked to share her insights as a business leader. She contributes regularly to the media and is appearing as an expert on the “Women in Business 2011” series on Woman’s Hour, BBC Radio 4.
